Also @noisytoot@mice.tel in case chinchillas eat the cables
@maddy This might actually be possible. You can extract private keys using that sound: https://cs-people.bu.edu/tromer/papers/acoustic-20131218.pdf

Now I can run stress -c 4 and it doesn’t even reach 90°C and barely throttles (to 3.1GHz due to hitting the PL1 power limit of 47W) instead of reaching 99°C and throttling constantly and the hinge near the fan getting so hot it was painful to touch like it did before. If I undervolt by -75mV it doesn’t throttle at all or go above 85°C.

Replaced it with Arctic MX-7 (previously was Arctic MX-6 from last year I think). This is so much better. The fan isn't even on!

I also managed to properly connect the second antenna to my wifi card (it was previously taped on) so maybe I'll get a better wifi connection too.

I think my laptop might need new thermal paste. It always ran quite hot but it seems to be even hotter lately

@esoteric_programmer I don't think it will be deleted (considering the previous nonsensical IPv6 replacement proposals weren't). They should just add a banner saying it's unofficial to the archive page (there's one on the datatracker already)

@janneke @synq @guix why is mastodon not bootstrappable? I thought the issue was just the massive amount of npm dependencies to package

@elly @frela How do you get Nuvoton to give you datasheets? I tried using the contact form on their website and they responded asking for a whole load of stuff I don't have (application, production schedule, quantity forecast, company name, ...) to which I responded saying I didn't have any of that and just wanted a datasheet, to which they didn't respond at all.

i’m fucking crying 😭 this guy installed a malware that keeps redirecting his queries through Yahoo, and vibe coded an extension that redirects Yahoo to Google, probably not understanding that he has malware 😭 😭

@meowmaxing is that showing actual boosts + boosts from relays or something? I wish akkoma had that, it just shows relay boosts as normal boosts in the timeline and then they disappear when you view a specific post (the lookup is too inefficient to exclude them when a specific post isn't being viewed)

@cwebber for some reason that link doesn't have an obvious way to actually view the file and I needed to click on "edit" then close the editor to actually view it

@xyla I can’t tell if she’s intentionally carrying that plant or if it just got stuck to her (it looks like that sticky weed, Galium aparine)

@meowmaxing It’s a proprietary obfuscated blob with full access to your computer, so it could be doing that, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is malware (it’s still a security risk and I wouldn’t let proprietary software anywhere near my kernel). But I have a wider definition of “malware” and consider obfuscation intended to prevent you from understanding and modifying the code (i.e. attempting to take control over your own computer away from you) to be inherently malicious, and kernel level anticheat invariably does this.

@meowmaxing Kernel level anticheat literally is malware though. All DRM and software intended to prevent the owner of a computer from exercising their freedom is malware.

@maddy @thing I’m not sure I’d trust PIA.

It was founded by Andrew Lee, the self-proclaimed “Crown Prince of Korea” and alleged habitual cocaine user, who took over freenode in 2021, called it “the digital territory of the Joseon Empire, the oldest nation in the world since 1392” and completely ran it into the ground.

He was also involved in the Mt. Gox bitcoin exchange and likely stole a lot of money, but that can’t be proved because they destroyed the evidence.

It was sold to Kape Technologies in 2019 but I’m not sure they’re any more trustworthy.

@cwebber @LordCaramac @bkuhn @ossguy @richardfontana In a world without copyright (assuming no other changes), nothing would prevent people from withholding source code and attempting to restrict people’s freedom by technical means (DRM). On the other hand, it would also be entirely legal to reverse engineer everything and bypass the DRM.

Copyright should be removed, but DRM and providing binaries without source code should also be made illegal.

Also why is your post language set to de?
