@kemona_halftau why not both? (also, ew, why does archpower use discord and github when arch does not?)

@yassie_j @kib @petko I wonder if gmail users are banned from loops, if he's banning accounts for just using the same email provider then surely gmail must be banned by now

long-ish list of some of my computers
Show content
@hexaheximal @charcole.bsky.social I have too many computers, but here's some of them:

main laptop:
RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600
Storage: 500GB SATA SSD (I need more space, I'm running out)
CPU: i7-4700MQ
GPU: Intel HD4600 (iGPU)
OS: GNU Guix System

secondary laptop:
RAM: 16GB DDR4-2400
Storage: 256GB NVMe SSD
CPU: i5-8250U
GPU: Intel UHD630 (iGPU)
OS: Alpine Linux

server (new (currently only akkoma runs here)):
RAM: 32GB DDR4-2400 ECC
Storage: 2x1TB NVMe SSD in btrfs RAID-1, 2x8TB HDD in btrfs RAID-1
CPU: i3-9350KF
GPU: none
OS: Gentoo

server (old (I'm going to move stuff from here to the new one and shut it down at some point (the original hardware died 77 days ago, this is the temporary replacement))):
RAM: 24GB DDR3-1600
Storage: 1TB HDD
CPU: i5-4690k
GPU: Intel HD4600 (iGPU)
OS: GNU Guix System

hopefully will be my desktop when I get it working and figure out what to do about the fan noise:
RAM: 64GB DDR4-2400 ECC
Storage: 500GB NVMe SSD
CPU: 2x 6-core/48-thread (SMT8) POWER9 @ 2.3-3.8GHz
GPU: AMD RX6400
OS: none yet (it doesn't boot :() but probably Gentoo

@maddy interesting that you can actually move your ONT, both of mine are attached to the wall where the fibre comes in

@h @aens @solonovamax @freya this only works if you use systemd. if you don’t, you can also use setcap to give the capability to the binary, or set the net.ipv4.ip_unprivileged_port_start sysctl to 0 in order to allow any user to bind to any port (if you do this you can then use eBPF to control which users are allowed to do this, but if you don’t care about security you probably wouldn’t bother with that)

@aens @solonovamax @freya I have previously almost accidentally shut down remote servers instead of my laptop, only to be prevented by sudo asking for a password

it's almost 6am. if it takes me as long to get to sleep as it has done recently, I won't be asleep before 7 or even 8am

@eloy the "lead figures" part is particularly funny. were the monarch and prime minister really directly involved?

@andrewblasco @pixelfed @vernissage

I recommend another servers (Luzeed, Fotolibre, for example).

Do these support migration? I thought the problem was that Pixelfed simply doesn’t support migration, not that pixelfed.social in particular has it disabled

@artemis @whitequark most of the flights I have been on have been relatively short distance (within europe) and with low-cost airlines. neither ryanair (probably the airline I have flown with the most), easyjet, wizzair, or norwegian have business class (both from memory and as far as I can find online). I have been on a transatlantic flight twice (once in each direction), with primera air (a low-cost airline that collapsed a few weeks later). I don't remember if that had business class, although from what I can find online it did

@artemis @whitequark

nobody does that. and nobody will do that because they’d lose a bunch of money.

untrue, budget airlines do that. I’m not sure if I have ever even been in a plane that had business class (maybe once or twice many years ago, but the majority of flights I have been on only had economy)

@mcc I'm not sure. The other way round (mastodon-fe on akkoma) is in theory possible but unmaintained and quite broken, and I know people have got akkoma-fe working with iceshrimp, but I'm not aware of anyone having done that for mastodon.

There's also nicolium, which definitely does work with mastodon and has a deck interface, but at least in the latest release (I don't know if it's different in the development version) the compose window is still a modal (although in the normal (non-deck) interface it is possible to put it in the sidebar)

@mcc @whitequark not every frontend except mastodon: both akkoma-fe and pleroma-fe still have a compose window in the sidebar
