re: I lied, more trauma talk

@maddy I’m so sorry, that sounds horrible.

I react very badly to retributive punishments like that and will just stop caring about any consequences (or anything else really) and spiral into getting more and more upset while repeatedly doing whatever makes it even worse and wishing that none of it ever happened.

When my parents attempted or threatened similar things (but still nowhere near as bad, or for such a long duration) it was bad enough. If they had done that, I’m not sure that I’d still be alive.

@kemona_halftau @catpunk I wonder if those are less common here because 50Hz flickering would be even more noticeable (given that I notice what is likely 100 Hz fluorescent flickering I should definitely notice that, but I only remember seeing something like that on LED signs and an LED strip on the outside of a food van, not on any indoor lighting actually intended to light a room)

@kemona_halftau @catpunk what kind of lighting flickers as slowly as 60hz? (unless it is broken)

@evan @drahardja since the US federal government does not support arresting Netanyahu, are you suggesting that New York should attempt to secede from the US? I don't think that's really possible without causing a civil war

@evan @drahardja and then what? they can't detain him for long, since they have no actual cause under US or New York state law to arrest him

@phnt @silverpill @mkljczk I’m glad that “dramafork” happened, because 4 years after the fork (and several more years after the issue to migrate (which I can’t find right now) was opened), gitea is still hosted on github.

it is not acceptable for free software projects to force contributors to use proprietary software (namely github and discord) in order to contribute, and that’s almost reason enough for a fork by itself. apart from that, having a seperate proprietary “enterprise” version with more features (withholding features from the free version while still maintaining it) is a clear conflict of interest.

@mkljczk I'm surprised that one passed, it's a terrible idea

@Rib apparently some isps that provide services over multiple fibre network providers (for example cityfibre (which is symmetric) and openreach (which is asymmetric) in the uk) will advertise the same (asymmetric) speeds for both but not throttle upload over the symmetric provider

(it's probably not this in your case though since you'd have to switch ont and you'd know about that)
