Also @noisytoot@mice.tel in case chinchillas eat the cables

@gam3 @evan Is it okay for straight people to vote on:

  1. ‘Is it okay for straight people to vote on “Is it ok for straight people to eavesdrop on Pride discourse?”?’?
  2. this poll?

(This is two polls in one to avoid infinite recursion)

100% Yes to both
0% Yes to both, but...
0% Yes (the other poll), No (this poll)
0% Yes (the other poll), No (this poll), but...
0% No (the other poll), Yes (this poll), but...
0% No (the other poll), Yes (this poll)
0% No to both, but...

I am very much not yet oversaturated by these vibrant colours.. I’m sure it will get old some time, but still has to emerge :D

@kemona_halftau I don't understand why so much software is proprietary in general. All software should be free (as in freedom)

@kemona_halftau there's appears to be a maxNoteLength configuration option from grepping the source code but I don't know how sharkey is configured

the weird thing is that the serial numbers/part numbers/FRUs listed in the ASMI web interface do not appear to match the RAM I actually have installed

@niko or even better, 2 12 month breaks a year (I'm not sure how that would work but probably something to do with time dilation)

@kemona_halftau you switched from arch to gentoo and back again by converting your existing installation rather than reinstalling?

this reminds me of how the way I build coreboot with EDK2 is repeatedly alternating make -j4 with guix shell -s i686-linux gcc-toolchain@11 -- make -j4 until it builds without linker errors because guix’s GCC doesn’t have multilib support and some parts of coreboot/EDK2 require it while others won’t build with the 32-bit GCC (but if you alternate between the two enough eventually it will build)

@kemona_halftau how do you end up with all of this on one system? bedrock linux?

I guess I will be returning it and buying more RAM until I find a set of modules that works (and hopefully there's nothing wrong with the server itself because I couldn't even carry it to the post office to return it)

wait, never mind, it is returnable! I confused it with something else

it is explicitly telling me to replace all 4 RAM modules. I should not have bought non-returnable RAM (edit: I didn’t)

I really don't know what to do now. There's a hexdump of the error log in the ASMI web interface but I don't know how to decode it.

it doesn't boot neocat_sob

something about the collect_drawers istep failing (I don't know what that is)

I can't try the RAM in another computer or try different RAM because I don't have any other computer that accepts DDR4 RDIMMs or any other DDR4 RDIMMs to test with

this manual gets the DIMM topology diagram wrong: slots C41 and C37 are swapped from the actual positions as marked on the board

I thought I could use my spare SATA SSD but there's no SAS backplane and the drive bays aren't connected anywhere, and I don't have a spare NVMe SSD

the RAM arrived! (but the SFP DAC cable and the SSD hasn't, so I can only boot from USB and connect to the network with a USB wifi dongle)
