@maddy I need to do this at some point, although most of the stuff I don't care about at all is on an old email address that I don't really use any more anyway (and where I have 12986 unread emails). For my main email (where I currently have only 3091 unread emails) I need to set up some kind of dovecot filter to sort mailing lists that I do slightly care about into different directories (and also get a better spamfilter, I currently receive a lot of spam and just delete it manually)

@kemona_halftau actually XUL/XPCOM addons (which is what I'm thinking of) are a third thing. A plugin is specifically for handling certain content-types and isn't more powerful in that way (although it's certainly less sandboxed and therefore more dangerous)

@kemona_halftau true browser plugins are more powerful and don’t really exist any more. now there are extensions and are much more limited for security reasons (and at least in the case of google, “we don’t want you to have an effective ad blocker” reasons)

(edit: I was actually thinking mostly of XUL/XPCOM addons, not plugins)
