I don’t know why today of all days, but I’m finally going through my main email and unsubscribing from all the mailing lists I don’t care about that overwhelm me.
(kemona_halftau)
@maddy i need to do this at some point too
Fucking hell, Humble often sends multiple promotional emails in a single day.
I just want my cheap batch of monthly games, aaaaaa
“Changes may take up to 24 hours to take effect”
“48 hours”
“10 days”
The fuck do you mean? Is your compute capability so shit that your tech stack would suffer to remove me from your database immediately?
Pathetic. I’m gonna start reporting as spam if I see their shit pop up after having unsubscribed.
This mailbox started the day with ~86,000 unread messages.
Currently down to ~74,000
@maddy this gave me anxiety just reading it😅
@fiend4coffee Well, I’m dealing with them in bulk. Usually deleting all from the sender’s address. I get a lot of junk from a lot of different sources. This email is NEARLY old enough to drink.
Shout-out to orgs that use a different domain or sender for promotional communications than the one they use for transactional communications (order status, feedback, etc)
A massive ‘fuck you’ to the orgs that send both with the same address and make me break out the more advanced search features.
@usernameswift @maddy
wrong country, i’m aware, but when i read that my brain went into (something resembling) an australian accent and “aur naur, she unsubscribed from moi rewards”
I like how Google Fi STILL sends marketing mails to me even though they fucking know that the service is not available in my region.
For a data collection company, that’s pretty silly..
…who the fuck thought it was a good idea to switch their promotional emails from info@domain.tld to support@domain.tld?
@maddy reminds me of this ad lol
the asshole that reaslise all the promo stuff was getting unsub'd or deleted upon delivery and wanted to force some eyeballs to roll
@maddy honestly the 11 is such a bizzare phone, maybe companies should stop doing yearly updates and do every 3 years with bigger changes, but alas money
@gen The vicious cycle of late-stage capitalism requires that a new shiny be released every year, or the ghosts of Nixon and Reagan will haunt their C-suites.
@maddy honestly maybe calling it the Pixel 10 (2027) version would work, with no changes except bug fixes
@maddy literally zero of these exist due to technical limitations. they literally just want to delay
@maddy all marketing should come from a distinct subdomain, an orgs domain should only send manually-written email from an actual human.
Down to ~52,000 unread messages, with many marketing emails unsubscribed and deleted. Taking a break for now.
@fiend4coffee This is what my brain decided to hyperfixate on today, I guess!
I lied about the break, though I did eat lunch.
Down to ~41,500
At this point, I seem to be down to lingering emails from orgs that no longer exist, so I have to browse through until I find one, and then delete or otherwise deal with them based on the domain or whatever.
Still going through emails intermittently.
Found this old gem from 2012. Snow Leopard was so good.
I still have the disc and its little box!
@maddy I’d be willing to bet it’s less to do with the tech stack, and more to do with what they can legally get away with under the law.
There is zero reason why an email can’t be immediately removed from a list as you clearly know, but the laws were probably based on snail mail, where the turn around between assembling the mailing list to dropping the mailer at the post office and then having it delivered can easily be a couple weeks or more.
@maddy snow leopard was the last version of mac I ever used
