thunderstorms are fun to watch

for some reason I couldn’t hear any thunder

video cut, slowed down (from 30 FPS to 15 FPS), and transcoded from H.265 to AV1 using ffmpeg:

ffmpeg -i lightning.mp4 -ss 00:40 -to 00:43 -map 0:v -c:v copy -bsf:v hevc_mp4toannexb lightning-raw.h265
ffmpeg -fflags +genpts -r 15 -i lightning-raw.h265 -c:v copy lightning-cut.mp4
ffmpeg -i lightning-cut.mp4 -c:v libsvtav1 lightning-cut.webm

it's probably fine but if berkeley.edu.pl goes down for longer than the usual reboot duration this is probably why

(I decided to fix it myself, hopefully it works because I'm testing in production.)

I'm not sure if I should drop the patch until someone else fixes it or try to fix it myself and hope it doesn't cause problems. the conflicting commit (d8068252f0435938ccb36e24e9c07475e5dff381) doesn't seem too bad

@eloy @merlin the way OpenWrt updates work where you need to reboot to update any packages is annoying if you're running anything that needs long-lived connections (e.g. an IRC bouncer, that would otherwise easily fit on many of these routers)

I know why it's necessary for routers with very little disk space/RAM but on my 1GB RAM/8GB eMMC router I wish it worked more like a normal distro

@kemona_halftau @CenTdemeern1 this is correct (as in it ensures that the header is included at most twice, not that that's something you'd ever want to do)

@nay POWER9 is either 4-way or 8-way SMT (with the former intended for PowerNV and the latter for PowerVM): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POWER9#Core. There was some discussion of this in #hellomouse on the 3rd of March if you want to read backlog.

(Also, not really relevant to it being SMT4, but it has a pre-production DD2.1 revision CPU which has broken hardware virtualization and broken hardware gzip, so they can’t give anyone VMs on it.)

@nay I know someone on IRC who uses a 32-core/128-thread/512GB RAM IBM Power System LC922 as their desktop. (I want one of those but they're all too expensive and/or don't ship to the UK.)

Her birthday is on the 20th of June (9 days before mine), so she's 3 years and 9 days older than me. Very old for a cat.
