@nay @elly @ptrc I hadn't heard of IP warming. Does it actually matter if you aren't hosting email for many people/mass-sending emails/hosting large mailing lists?

@nay @elly @ptrc isn't that more of an IP address lottery you have to do once rather than ongoing maintenance? (at least for a personal mail server)

@elly @ptrc I run my own mail server and there's not that much maintenance (beyond just doing security updates), at least between Debian releases (the version of dovecot in trixie totally changed its configuration which is why I'm still on bookworm, and in a previous upgrade the opensmtpd package broke in a way that meant I couldn't receive any email from gmail (I don't remember what exactly the issue was, but it was something TLS-related))

@elly @ptrc run your own mail server? it's the only option that can fully be trusted

@inconspicuous-lurker-99 @nelson According to this, you can disable privacy.resistFingerprinting and use privacy.fingerprintingProtection instead, which has a privacy.fingerprintingProtection.overrides setting that you can change to “+AllTargets,-CSSPrefersColorScheme” to disable the forced light mode.

I’m not sure why they added a new setting instead of making resistFingerprinting overridable, or what exactly the differences are.

@nelson @inconspicuous-lurker-99 privacy.resistFingerprinting forces light mode, that's probably why

@nelson

also probably just adjust the brightness of your monitor

my monitor is at minimum brightness most of the time and in a dark room that’s still too bright

@maddy depends on what you compare it to

I have a ThinkPad T480s (i5-8350U, default 15W TDP increased to 30W) and a ThinkPad T440p (i7-4700MQ, 47W TDP) and the T480s idles at 20-30°C with the fan completely off (and rarely throttles under load) while the T440p idles at 60-70°C (and will reach 100°C and throttle quite quickly) and the fan never completely switches off

(Both are also undervolted, the T480s by -100mV and the T440p by -75mV. Also T480s almost certainly has better cooling than the X280 (it always has the dual heatpipe which only the dGPU models of the T480 have))

@kemona_halftau nothing is impossible (but it does appear to be rather difficult to do without breaking anything)

I have a phone with a dead battery that's like that, it's held together with glue and I haven't been able to open it with a hairdryer (I don't have a heat gun) and suction cups.

@nay please add an extra newline after quotes otherwise akkoma parses the next line as part of the quote

@dpk if talks aren't all streamed and recorded then the too-small venue becomes even more of an issue

@ariadne @cobra isn’t that every matrix implementation (and matrix in general)? although some are worse than others (the worst definitely being cloudflare’s vibe-coded “post-quantum” matrix homeserver that doesn’t check signatures)
