#pkgconf dev stream will be around 8pm PT! there is a little bit of setup i need to do with restreamer first. this is also kind of a test run, i am planning on doing streaming on a regular basis now that i have things mostly set up the way i want.
@ariadne where will you be streaming, if you don't mind me asking?
@ariadne sorry, I forgot to ask: will you be sharing the links to the platforms here?
@ariadne awesome! It will be ~4 AM here, but I hope I can watch it.
@brunomiguel hence youtube, so that the stream is archived! also at some point i plan on hiring a part time video editor if this works out
@ariadne you do a lot of work that spans across the FOSS ecosystem, so my best guess is it has a good chance of working out
@brunomiguel yes, i was starting to gain a following a few years ago, but then i moved to seattle and i was going through a pretty bad mental health slump (i think people noticed this for some time, and the reasons are complicated) so i let it stagnate. i think some years of therapy plus helping to start a company has given me the confidence to try againβ¦
@ariadne there are a lot of people who recognize the work you put through to help the FOSS community at large, and I bet people will start flocking to your streams and enjoy the content.
@ariadne and honestly, not wanting to diminish anyone's work, but there is little actual technical FOSS content and a lot of superficial stuff. You'll be filling a niche that needs more content, if I understood your intentions with your streaming content.
@brunomiguel that is a planned element of my content, but not necessarily the sole focus
this one will only be on twitch because youtube has a mandatory waiting period for the first stream, despite my account existing since *checks notes* 2007
@ariadne
Youtube also has a stupid "Top chat" set as default, where you do not see what people actually write and you've to each time switch back to "Live Chat".
They delete VODs of streams that are too long (something 8-10 hours).
And you cannot reasonably manage a ban-list. It loads a few hundred entries from the ban-list at random each time you refresh the page and it doesn't have a search box. It also loads in chunks each time you scroll down.
Twitch is definitely better for streaming.
@noisytoot i am planning on using owncast for that, but i need to finish building the new colo box first.
