which tablet pcs or convertible laptops does fedi recommend? i don’t care too much about specs, i just need something with a decently large touchscreen, usb port(s), a headphone port, and some type of pen/stylus (similar to a wacom tablet).
as for specs, it just needs at least 4gb ram, at least 100gb storage, and ideally an amd cpu+igpu (intel works too though)
i plan on using arch linux and kde plasma on it, as a replacement for my broken surface pro 3

@kemona_halftau I've heard some chromebooks are quite nice (with MrChromebox/Chrultrabook of course, not ChromeOS). Quite a few of them have USI pen support.

@kemona_halftau It does take a bit more effort to install though. On modern chromebooks you need a Suzy-Q/CCD (Closed Case Debugging) cable to talk to the Cr50 to disable write protection, which you can either make yourself or there's a US-based debug board seller on ebay. (It is also technically possible to bypass the Cr50 by physically disconnecting and connecting the write protect pin to ground, but that's probably harder than making a debug cable yourself.)

@kemona_halftau any of the Lenovo x13 laptops, they’re the yoga series, I use it regularly and it can ship with no os or Ubuntu so you can easily flash your own os

@kemona_halftau@sharkey.skydevs.me i would never buy another intel as they do a lot of chip design and manufacture in genocidal israel. anyway amd chips are far superior.

@kemona_halftau google wormdingler (2021 Lenovo Duet 3)
google voxel (2021 Lenovo spin 713 CP713-3w)

are two nice ones i have used

(and somewhat reasonably priced with good screens)

(haven't tested colors but I'm sure someone has)

@kemona_halftau actually forget the wormdingler since it for some reason doesn't have a headphone socket, but iirc another surface style tablet in the trogdor family does

@brettm @kemona_halftau according to Wikipedia, same goes for Lenovo, Dell and HP aka the only three brands whose laptops I would ever touch, as well as Apple, Broadcom, Nvidia, Qualcomm, SanDisk, Samsung, Seagate, WD. In other words, even if you avoid these three brands, there’s a big chance your SSD will use Samsung chips, if you ever need a HDD for your server, you don’t have any choice. You need to try really, really hard to have a fully genocide-free device, including relying on RNG of what SSD your laptop is.

Also, you can just not buy new stuff, that doesn’t support anyone besides seller.

That's good info, thanks for posting it. I think its the scale of Intel's relationship that stands out, and all the chip fabbs they build basically on the rubble of Palestinian villages 😞
