Just realized that “my first drivers license could legally drink” will almost always man that you are 36 or 37 years old (works if you got your license as soon as legally able and have not moved to/from US in between

@gwenthefops It could mean 21 years old in the UK!

@seabass @gwenthefops if you can have a driving license at the age of 16 and drink from the age of 5, how can that be <20?

@seabass @gwenthefops (5 is for England, in Scotland it would be the same age you can get a driving license at, since there's no minimum drinking age in private)

@noisytoot @gwenthefops Off-by-one error on my part! I never did this myself, but you can apply for a provisional driving licence from age 15 and 9 months. You can't normally drive a car with a provisional licence until you're 17, but you can drive a moped or a tractor at 16 - or a car if you receive PIP benefits.

I am not sure whether you'll actually get the licence before age 16 if you apply as soon as possible, and if so, whether it is immediately valid. If both of those things are true it could just be under 21 though.

@noisytoot @gwenthefops I didn't know about the difference in Scotland! Neither do several alcohol risk prevention charities, it would seem.
