it’s not viable until it doesn’t require a phone number and it’s not acceptable until it’s properly decentralized

@lumi I would refuse to use signal but I need it for things like voice calls which for some reason refuse to work on matrix

@CinnamonCatYurilover @lumi xmpp has voice calls (at least 1:1, I never tried group voice calls). dino and conversations at least support them

@lumi @CinnamonCatYurilover i'd rather have good security than either different identifiers or especially federation because that makes everything 10x as difficult but i can see the priorities

@lumi @CinnamonCatYurilover It is quite clear that a protocol aiming to be an actual alternative to proprietary services such as Discord must offer at least a similar set of functionality. As such, we consider voice- and videocalling to be in scope for our overall project.
