The Verge om using Windows 11 with 8GB of RAM

I was on a Microsoft Teams call (using the app, not a browser) when the host streamed a brief video, which made the whole laptop hang for several seconds. At the time, I had about 10 Chrome tabs open across two desktops, alongside Slack and Signal β€” not an obscene level of multitasking.

Uh, that is an obscene level of multitasking because every single one of those "applications" is an entire fucking Chrome browser. You're running four individual Chrome browsers with little to no optimisation and are surprised 8GB is not enough.

This isn't a Windows problem. This is a programmers are bad at their job Γ— managers have no idea what they're doing problem.

@thomholwerda yes. But also it is a windows problem because the UI programming on windows is a nightmare so people give up and use chrome.
But also, companies hire UI programmers and the only experience in the field is website and CSS, knowledge how to build native UI apps is rare (and expensive).

@thomholwerda How come I have like 50-ish firefox tabs open and another 20-ish librewolf tabs open and I can still use jitsi just fine? 8 GB of RAM, Alpine Linux, sway...

I'd say it is a Windows problem too, nowadays windows happily takes 2-3 GB of RAM on idle.
