@noisytoot @gabboman interesting, I fetched a post that showed up as the post alone, and after a few seconds after refresh replies showed up too, with 0 likes, 0 repeats and 0 replies

also there are some AP implementations (snac) that push posts onto your timeline even if noone on your instance is following anyone on the snac instance

Imagine your instance has 3 users, and because someone else on your instance saw by a rewoot a post of mine, your software displayed it to you too. Without you following me or the person who rewooted it

It was their feed generator doing things wrong and ignoring conventions

Ok thats a bug in your software. Why is it displaying you posts that you dont need to be shown

@gabboman @noisytoot @luna well idk but it only happens for snac instances, so if this particular implementation disrupts my feed, which no other implementation does, then im considering it as protocol abuse and block the instance in question

having the local instance firewall posts would in essence automate this, but not solve the actual problem which is the foreign instance misbehaving

idk how activitypub actually works, but the fact that this is even a thing makes me conclude that posts get to you by the foreign instances pushing them to your server rather than by your server polling them from the foreign instances (which is more efficient but would indeed warrant having a builtin post firewall)

but then again if your ssh server was to be attacked by malware its good to have fail2ban installed, but that doesnt clear the attacker of his guilt
