idk it just works. every single day. A/B partition scheme. zero drama. can't say that about other systems istg.

@pomagarnet i had my phone suddenly die on me twice and i am fearful of never recovering the data on it

@pomagarnet if any component of my computer dies other than the SSD itself, I can move the SSD to another computer and transfer the data (and depending on what died there's a chance I can relatively easily replace it and get it working again). if any component of my phone dies, I have no idea how I'd get the data off of the eMMC (and I can't even open it up to replace any components because it's all glued together)

@noisytoot I agree with you and I'm all for replaceable interoperable parts

it's about expectations: I expect a phone to die (via river, being stolen, sniffed by cops) so I backup often, but the threat never comes. vs: I expect computers to be safe, so I chill out, but they betray me and randomly die without cause (as famfo is dealing with rn)

@noisytoot and that's despite the discourse around eMMCs dying - I've never had a phone's storage chip fail. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I'm comparing it to the countless HDDs, SSDs, and NVMEs I've had die for computers.
