may the liveposting self-doxxing thread commence :3
today we’re going to a not-yet-disclosed location in Carinthia, while (thankfully) completely avoiding DB’s network and having fun while doing it ^

first train of the day!
TER A01 96207: Strasbourg – Basel SBB
@ a bunch of Corail coaches, pushed by Alstom BB 26000 (SNCF 26159R)

shitass TER got delayed on the approach and i missed my train x.x
( also, forgot to take my Salt SIM card, so posting from Switzerland will be quite limited :’3 )

fortunately, i’ve got a backup plan to my backup plan, but it’s not gonna be easy,,

IC 61(615) Basel SBB – Olten (– Interlaken Ost)
@ Schindler Bt (SBB 26-94 074)
it’s a rather comfy IC 2000, with a row of seats just for myself

aaand another tight transfer incoming, this time running across the platforms rather than along them, so hopefully the underpass is not too crowded,

1

arriving ahead of time !! nevermind then, i might have a little time to goof around

1

nevermind squared, we’re rolling 2km/h in some tunnel…

@ptrc sounds like someone is waiting on a platform to be free

can't relate, doing 200km/h up the WCML rn

made the transfer rather easily, so… train number three! going back north towards Zürich, where i’ll be hoping to catch my EuroCity,,

IR 55(1765): (Biel –) Olten – Zürich HB
@ Stadler KISS (SBB 512 052)

rather disappointing that none of the SBB trains seem to have wifi networks so far..

3

also yes i keep changing the format of the trains because i’m still experimenting what works best
dropped the “train n out of however many” because i might as well go on more / less of them

@ptrc only the international trains do, for all IC/IR you're expected to use SBB FreeSurf, which is a very fucked up hack to enable unbilled data usage over LTE/5G

2

@ptrc also i find it very funny that the international trains ask you to sign in with SwissPass login, and then send you a "second factor" code via e-mail, so you're fucked when you don't have a phone with internet 🥴

two minute transfers across half the station are so stressful lmao
fortunately this is the end of the crazy backup plan, everything else should be smooth

EC 153: Zürich HB – Lugano – Milano Lambrate? (– Rimini)
@ Stadler SMILE (SBB 501 023 “Valais”)
it’s quite comf, though we have a very loud child in our segment ;;
not sure whether to get off at Lugano and transfer to the RE80, or stay on the train until Milano Lambrate and take the metro back to Centrale…..

2

0

or even better! getting off at Rogoredo, transferring to a regional towards Milano Porta Garibaldi via the silly city tunnel 🥺 that's a decent plan i think, and from Garibaldi i can then take the M2 to Centrale

@ptrc oh yes i’d like two number 9s and a utility bill

@ptrc „avoiding DB today yay!“ immediately gets fucked over by SNCF/SBB

top comedy :D

@follpvosten hey, at least here it didn't really affect me and i'm back on track, last time i got fucked over by DB it was a 20 minute connection that i missed by another 30 because Frankfurt ( and SFS Hannover-Würzburg ) exists

@xyla @ptrc
I’ll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large utility bill.

and after the well deserved break in the mountains, time to ferment in a FLIRT with a flock of italians

planning some spinny around Milan, but it’s really hard to fit something really funny into less than an hour ;w;

@ptrc could have walked to Porta Garibaldi, it's a pretty area

@IngaLovinde i’m planning to go back to Porta Garibaldi, wanted to check Cadorna first :3

and we continue onto the silly terminus :3

it’s actually pretty chill in here, really nice :3

M2: (Assango M.Forum –) Cadorna FN – Centrale FS (– Gessate)
@ uhhhh something (ATM 3413)

1

fun fact: 5 minutes is not quite enough to make it from M2 “Centrale FS” to the actual platforms

1

@IngaLovinde sadly i fell victim to bad planning and almost missed my Freccia from Centrale 😔

0

oop, forgot to post the train itself

FR 9643: Milano Centrale – Bologna Centrale (– Napoli Centrale)
@ Bombardier Zefiro (TBA)

1

the AC on the Freccia is quite disappointing, the ambient air stays above 28 degrees, though it's nice when i put my hand directly on the vent

2

@boatload the first and business class have proper working AC, it's just the restaurant and second class that doesn't

1

@quinn @ptrc also some RhB trains do! And some (most? all?) SBB stations

1

@IngaLovinde @quinn the vast majority, from what i've seen :3

the freccia is now delayed 60 minutes

1

they removed the platform field entirely because fuck knows where it’s gonna go

2
0
0

they moved it to the upper platforms
for my local followers, the distance between Bologna Cle lower and upper platforms is kinda like Berlin Hbf between the S15 and the rest of S-Bahn, except there’s also a fucking parking lot in the way

2

viaggia fucking treno, my dear viewers

at this point the next Freccia ( 1 hour later ) is ahead of us lmao

1

it’s amazing how the Freccia 1000 feels older than TGV Réseau, despite being only a decade old

1
0

in typical AnsaldoBreda fashion, the train is extremely janky and you can feel every single bump even at 150km/h

3

@ptrc so good to be in Spain, where we have Talgos instead blobcatfluffowo

1

@xerz oh imho even the Avril is better designed and more comfortable than this

1

@xerz like yes talgo is also janky as fuck but this is somehow worse

i saw that train parked on a siding between Mestre and S.Lucia, can they not find someone to actually drive it?

1

“no free water, you gotta buy it like everyone else, two euro” this is why we can’t have nice things

3
0
0

@ptrc the only time we all get “free water” is when it is raining outside.. sadly the amount of rain you get depends on where you are on this damn planet

1
0
0

@Natsura i mean, some cities can do this properly; Basel has a water fountain on every corner, even in France the predatory SNCF is mounting water bottle refill points, but so far italians seem the least prepared for a heatwave despite being more south

1
0
0

i can pretend to be german up until some german-speaking person goes off script and then it’s suddenly “uhhhhh sowwy”

2
0
0

@ptrc this is like if water fountains were in cyberpunk 2077

0
0
0

ah! the italians just lowered the pantographs and left the train in the sun without AC, the austrian staff is very mad and very vocal about it

1

@ptrc @Natsura many Italian cities also have plenty of drinking fountains!
Some were there for centuries I think

“hey so um, we’re delayed ~30 minutes, and i’m definitely not gonna make the last train onwards, what can we do about it?”

apparently, öbb’s answer is “i don’t know, wait a moment” and the moment is 15 minutes so far

NJ 40236: Venezia Santa Lucia – Villach Hbf (– Wien Hbf / Stuttgart Hbf)

i’m genuinely not sure what to do, take a 100+ EUR taxi with no guarantee of getting my money back or just try to get a hotel in Villach

i guess the mystery destination was sleeping the night at Villach Hbf

@ptrc Fingers crossed, hope everything will turn out alright neocat_heart

At least ÖBB are semi-competent with regards to refunds? I got mine processed within like a week last time I had to apply for one, and all the problems I encountered were with German staff (besides the thing where nothing's ever open in Austria, I also kissed the door handle on the Kundenservice hotline)

0
0
0

@ptrc I think EU passenger rights force them to reimburse you if they died not themselves offer you assistance with getting to the destination? (Assuming your next train is ÖBB too; not sure how things work between different operators when on interrail; they definitely don't work between different operators when on split regular tickets.)

1
0
0

@IngaLovinde both trains were ÖBB, afaict i can get compensation for that specific taxi from ÖBB + the standard 12 EUR from interrail

1
0
0
@ptrc @IngaLovinde when submitting for delay compensation to interrail, include the taxi expenses as well. sometimes you can get it independently reimbursed by two different companies, effectively getting you a bit more compensation for the troubles

@ptrc was so pretty when the tunnel was shut down and these trains took 1h longer scenic route...

0

@ptrc I'd say the distance is larger in Bologna.

(But as opposed to Berlin I think lower/subterranean platforms are used for all high-speed traffic and upper/ground for all regular speed?)
