Out of the two, what is your preference?

Explain why in the replies, if you'd like

57% DHCP Reservation
42% Static IP

@MsLeading In my day job I prefer DHCP Reservation because if some ass-hat has a static IP set in Windows and it conflicts with another device, then rebooting the one without network access will get it back online and I can remote in and figure out what's happening.

(I work remotely.)

@MsLeading I almost went with DHCP Reservation, as central management is handy... but ultimately I chose static. Static is resilient against rogue DHCP servers.

@OneOfThePetes Good call! It's not something I've personally run into, but I know that can wreak havoc!

@MsLeading I honesty do both, depending on use-case.

I prefer to only give static IPs to critical infrastructure and utilize DHCP reservations for everything else.

It's nice not having to manually configure an IP for my printer, and can just manage that from my Firewall config UI remotely instead.
