I'm in the mood to shop around for linux terminals. No opinions on what I want, just wanna see what's available.

What's everyone's favorite terminal on Linux?

@bearmine I tried quite a few a couple of years ago, and Alacritty was always the one I liked best.

There also seem to be good vibes from the project... they explicitly decline AI-generated code submissions, for a start. Now, with any luck, this might actually be a software recommendation of mine where Noisytoot doesn't surprise me by revealing how the maintainers are responsible for heinous acts 😂

@seabass @bearmine I'm not aware of any heinous acts committed by the maintainers!

It's my favourite of the GPU accelerated terminal emulators because it works with OpenGL ES 2.0 (which the others mostly don't), although I use konsole.

@mir I just tried kitty and I just can’t use it. The way it handles terminal colors and how you have to get the terminfo onto all your servers somehow just ruins the whole experience.

@bearmine do be aware the dev is sort of an asshole about features he doesnt approve of, like bitmap fonts

@mir oh, reading him argue about not wanting to support $TERM=xterm-256color showed me that very quickly. That just makes it unusable for me in my day to day.

Never assume a use can plant a file onto the Linux boxes they’re sshing into.
