So.. let me get this straight.
People who aren't willing to lie to a "are ya 18 yet buddy?" textbox request from FOSS maintainers to violate a law and risk the government up their asses for something so inconsequential, because like all the websites/apps that _have to know and are allowed to know_ are already asking anyway, so it just is less annoying to users?
Maybe start being a rebel yourself before asking others to do it instead of you. Lie to a textbox today!
@karolherbst lol it's so absurd how everyone has forgotten about this? when I was smol, all the phpbb forums (in jurisdictions that had fuck all to do with the US) had COPPA prompt pages and everyone lied to them
@valpackett the worst part is how this is framed as evil fascism and then one goes "yeah, maybe there is a point in some people saying everything they don't like is fascism" and few realize how much this all backfires.
@karolherbst maybe that textbox shouldn’t exist, and is the start of a slippery slope, and a great show of spinelessness by maintainers who were not having those fascist laws enforced against them nor ever would have
shit me not, those states cannot actually do anything to a majority of projects in the linux desktop space, so im not sure how im supposed to treat sucking their dick anyway as anything but fascist behaviour. obeying in advance is wrong, obeying so well in advance is inexcusable
@zaire most of your points are based on misinformation tho
@karolherbst ill bite, elaborate
@zaire not my responsibility 🤷
I can only urge you to properly read up on all the available commentary, I won't do the work for you.
@fun my take is: what do I care about systemd storing my date of birth, when ~/Pictures can contain a photo of my passport and other way more critical things 🙃
