PSA - It’s okay to have ideals such that proprietary software is evil or no good, but you don’t have to be an asshole to others about it.

Like if you feel the need to bully others for using what works for them, you really should check yourself.

Sorry there isn’t a good replacement for Discord yet.

Sheesh.

@maddy another good example is windows. I’m not happy with windows, I want to ditch it, but I both play games and use paid for creative software. Mac is missing the games and Linux is missing the creative software. So I still use windows for now.

I’m so sick of the windows bashing all over the place. It has problems but it’s not as bad as all the Linux fanboys make it out to be. blobcatnotlikethis

@maddy There are good replacements for Discord, though. The issue with discord is that everyone uses discord and nobody uses the other things. That's the fault of people using discord (a group that regrettably includes me), and it's not going to be solved by making a better replacement. People won't move until everyone else moves, which means Discord will either need to get as bad as Skype or a few major communities will need to simultaneously migrate to the same system.

@haematophage What are these good replacements? Matrix doesn’t count.

@haematophage Among other things, with the attention spans of many folks absolutely obliterated, how do you expect folks to react when one of the first things they see when looking up Matrix is a page-long guide on how to use it?

A good replacement for discord should be intuitive. Easy to join, ideally easy to use (I don’t think discord is easy to use).

@maddy I just don't believe that this is a problem. Element is easy to set up an account on, and iPad babies who can't read a single page of information are never worthwhile contributors to a community.

@maddy @haematophage discord requires reading a long (probably even longer, although I'm not sure exactly which guide you're referring to) document in order to sign up (the ToS)
