I tried to access a page on https://lgbtqia.space/ earlier. A mastodon instance, and they block access to UK IP addresses, quite rightly so, due to the Online Safety Act.

With my homemade VPN service, hosted on a German VPS provider, I now have access to Blåhaj, and imgur. Yes.

UK Online Safety Act is a dangerous threat to... the internet. Fuck the UK, btw.

@libreleah I have a route through my VPN interface specifically for that instance, although I can't see images because bunny.net blocks by geodns and I haven't set up a recursive DNS server outside the UK yet

@libreleah also your post's language is set to de for some reason even though it's in english and that makes akkoma default to de for replies too

I now also have a Dutch VPS. I'm going to use the Dutch VPS for most traffic.

Amsterdam and London have pretty much direct connection (LINX and AMSIX). Much lower latency (I live near London).

Also imgur is a bit screwy on the German VPN. I replicated last night's WireGuard configuration, setting it up on a Dutch VPS provider.

27ms ping / 2ms jitter on the Dutch one.

ping/jitter is about double on the german one. I'll use that one for... german things.
