If each distro was assigned an animal that best fits its vibe, what would they be?

I feel like kali lincox motto of "we quite so can hear gud" really fits house cats. ablobcatpeek

@catsalad I think Arch Linux would be an annoying animal. Like a mosquito /j

@catsalad The first "not invented here" animal I can think of would be a Platypus. So that would be the animal for Ubuntu.

@catsalad isn't this the whole basis of Ubuntu release names ? 😀

@jonw @catsalad I'm still mad they wasted "Disco Dingo" on a non-LTS

@catsalad I think Debian would be sea turtle (I am not sure what name of specie is but ones that can live long life, for maybe 100 years)

@catsalad

I think @elementary would be a quokka because if quokkas knew about inclusivity, ethicality and person-centered design, they'd be down for that because that's what makes everyone happy.

@Theotime812 @catsalad * wasp.

Annoying, useless, detrimental to everyone else.

@Theotime812 @catsalad @debian would be an elephant. A Behemoth, moving slowly, but keeps working reliability and having a long life.

@catsalad Wouldn´t a house cat mean: randomly ejecting hard drives and spending hours a day idle in sleep mode?

@catsalad Debian: cockroach -- unkillable, ressilant, will be laughing at us from the rubble two centuries from now. Eats ancient garbage and can drink used engine oil straight.

Arch: ant -- tedious, well organized, hard working, sort of pedantic and singularly focused, looks chaotic but everything has a purpose you just can't understand right away. You sort of need to put it in an ant farm (emulator, container, roots, etc) and watch it for some time to understand what is going on.

OpenSUSE: some sort of small dog, I'll go with Chihuahua -- easy to underestimate, pleasant to be with, plenty of people would probably like it more if not for the fact that it isn't stunningly pretty and will sometimes bite you

NixOS: magpie -- finnicky, sorta self interested, very messy but fastidious at the same time, piles of rare and valuable objects of unknown use organized in a haphazard way that will never change, steals shiny stuff, has the biggest hoard of weird knickknacks you've ever seen, does its own thing, dislikes you you by default but will warm up to you if you spend time with it and give it cool stuff.

@woe2you @molenaar @catsalad

Debian is a sloth using a walker.

@catsalad @fedora : A beaver 🦫
Furiously catching everything that floats around, adding it to its pile. Makes it stable sometimes afterwards.

@molenaar @catsalad I would have picked the platypus for Gentoo. Yes, it exists and gets along just fine as it is. But the question is how and more importantly why?

@patrick I guess Kali is more specifically an orange cat blobcatgoogly2

@catsalad #NetBSD could be a squirrel. We've got all the nuts :)

And we're nuts enough, in a good way, that we're still going to be running on architectures decades from now that Debian and the other Linux distros have already decided aren't commercial / popular enough.

@catsalad Leafcutter ants (according to Wikipedia) are tiny but carry far more than their weight. They’re symbiotic with fungus, which they farm and protect from pests.

They prefer disturbed habitats, which is where a change in environmental conditions causes a pronounced change in an ecosystem.

@postmarketOS is a colony of leafcutter ants.

@introvertcatto @catsalad openSuse has chameleons sorted. Mint would be a goldfish - easy enough for everyone to keep and maintain. Manjaro - ball python. Not for everyone, not everyone likes it, easy enough to keep and maintain, daunting because it's Arch based, but really quite friendly.
Parrot - a parrot.

@molenaar @catsalad, needs an adjective. I'm choosing ‘perforated’, just because.

@catsalad the phenomena of Kali Linux on internet dorks truly does need to be studied. It's interesting how much it gravitates certain people.
