@esm I think you can set up a mastodon instance over IP with HTTP? I havnt tried because im not a lunatic.

@Tristan @esm You could, and you can get TLS certificates for IP addresses from Let's Encrypt now, but IP addresses on the internet are ultimately controlled by ICANN/IANA too, so it's not really any better.

@noisytoot @tristan @esm isn't it really concerning though how much control is centralized in the hands of the ICANN (which also happens to be US-based)
