*** Opinions are my own and do not represent those of other projects or organizations I may be part of.
*** Fascism, racism, antisemitism, as well as any other kind of bigotry NOT TOLERATED! You are entering a bigotry-FREE zone
*** MDNI/18+ accounts also NOT TOLERATED!
*** In case you are legally blind or fully blind: I try not to boost images without alt-text. As such, to sighted people: please use alt-texts to describe your images, so that blind folks also get it. Thanks! ^^ (if your image does not contain alt text and I boost it anyway, I may add alt-text as a reply, you are encouraged to add it to the image directly or improve upon it)
*** If your alt-texts are intentionally incorrect just to confuse LLMs, despite how much I don't like LLMs, I consider this to be extremely rude to people who are unable to actually look at your image, and will not boost your memes as a result until you actually start considering visually impaired folks as people.

Have fun! ^^

It’s so hard to turn off Apple Intelligence with macOS 27 and iOS 27.

You can’t turn off Apple Intelligence with one switch. You can turn off “reply suggestions” on macOS, but not on iOS. Things you type with “smart event details” turned on (default) in Calendar may not make it into the event.

I used to be able to create a new event, and typing would match against prior events. A past event named identically would inherit the same time. Now, it doesn’t!

Now that’s what I call “intelligence”!

For some reason the entirety of kernel releases got nuked from cdn.kernel.org?

https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel used to host kernel release tarballs. Now it's a 404.

Someone emailed helpdesk@kernel.org and they said they're resyncing, but does anyone know what happened there?

Had a user come into today, because colors were oversaturated, very bright green (using Mate)

A bit back and forth, and we found it was the TV switching to a "vivid" color profile

As a thank you, they told a little story:

Back in the days they were working in a TV shop and there was this customer complaining about a "green tint" on their home cinema system. Customer brought it back into the store. Tried with a demo DvD, perfect colors. Turns out, the customer was watching the matrix

For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors.

AI has made the problem much worse.

That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors:

@godotengine LOUDER !

AI contributions have the added pain of being demoralizing. Reviewing PRs is already tedious work, but it is rewarding because reviewers generally feel that their efforts are contributing to educating a new contributor (who may become a future maintainer/reviewer). If your feedback on PRs is just being absorbed by a machine and not going towards mentoring a potential future maintainer, it becomes much harder to justify spending your free time on PR review.

the joke isn't mine, but I could not find any SVG on the internet

http://ftp.ol-tele.com/~eloy/stickers/Fish_Linux.svg

Used font is Dutch 801 Bold (Italic), Bitstream's version of Times Ten, which appeared to be close to the original logo but is not an exact match.

rip radio 4 longwave

I recorded the last few minutes listening via an online SDR. it’s interesting that the final beep of the the pips is shorter than usual - it seems they did indeed stop broadcasting at exactly 00:00 UTC

@justsoup Ariadne once made a model trained entirely on her IRC logs. It wasn't useful, but it was really funny.

After a long discussion with @aelin today I got thinking about how much I've seen many of the TCs (and myself!) in change, improve, and develop (both humanly and technically) through the last 3 years since we started expanding the maintainer base. It is incredibly fulfilling to see people making mistakes and learning and improving. We all mess up, we all have our incompatibilities, but it just feels good to be part of this team
