*** Opinions are my own and do not represent those of other projects or organizations I may be part of.
*** Fascism, racism, antisemitism, as well as any other kind of bigotry NOT TOLERATED! You are entering a bigotry-FREE zone
*** MDNI/18+ accounts also NOT TOLERATED!
*** In case you are legally blind or fully blind: I try not to boost images without alt-text. As such, to sighted people: please use alt-texts to describe your images, so that blind folks also get it. Thanks! ^^ (if your image does not contain alt text and I boost it anyway, I may add alt-text as a reply, you are encouraged to add it to the image directly or improve upon it)
*** If your alt-texts are intentionally incorrect just to confuse LLMs, despite how much I don't like LLMs, I consider this to be extremely rude to people who are unable to actually look at your image, and will not boost your memes as a result until you actually start considering visually impaired folks as people.

Have fun! ^^

As a free software maintainer, this is entirely unacceptable. Now I have to spend time figuring out how to tell AI agents to *fuck off* so I don't have to deal with this.

Like, it clearly looks unfinished, like they started copying iOS and then just gave up and said "good to go!". The Quick Settings thing especially looks quite awful, and my phone is overall having trouble handling all that useless blur (but disabling it just makes everything look even worse).

And yes, I don't like iOS-esque UIs.

Google: "Hey can I copy your homework?"
Apple: "Sure! Just change it a little bit so it's not too obvious."

The Open Source Lab is on the move!

Moving a data center is about more than just hauling serversโ€”itโ€™s an opportunity to modernize. Weโ€™re raising funds to cover the critical extra expenses incurred during this transition, including new high-speed networking equipment, remote management tools, and hardware upgrades.

Support our student-led team as they build a faster, more resilient network for the open source community.

inspired by CLAUDE.md, Iโ€™ve started putting markdown files named after coworkers into work code repos so I can remind them to stop doing shit to the codebase that annoys me

for some reason theyโ€™re all mad at me now, which means ill be adding commands to JEREMY.md for an attitude adjustment

@danirabbit Yeah I believe trashing other DEs to be dumb and just wasting time. I feel like Linux having so many desktop options and customisability to be a strength, and *especially* if these DEs actually collaborate with each other.

This isn't about competition, but about choice, something other OSes tend to lack, that is given to you for free.

For example, I run sway on my computer, I quite like it and I feel quite productive with it - but I still recommend other envs besides sway - I have friends I helped move to linux use completely different DEs I don't use, yet recommended to them (gnome, cinammon, Pantheon, KDE, etc...) and they love it. Despite not having really used KDE or gnome (etc) much in the last few years, I still enjoy seeing progress in these, I feel very happy seeing these get more and more polished over time, and the developers are super nice and helpful too :)

@CyReVolt that's one of the reasons why I tend to not really like e.g. windows and in general some apps pretending to be user-friendly..

Like, being this non-specific is not user-friendly at all... it's like saying "well there was an error, please figure it out yourself, too lazy to tell you what actually happened" in the name of user-friendliness...

Hot take: Instead of showing "unexpected ", apps should expect more errors.

You may have a favorite desktop that you really love and feel passionate about and thatโ€™s great, but we should not be putting down other desktops or their developers for having their own way of doing things. They are our colleagues and often our friends. Just about everyone who works on desktop Linux is an expert in their field in one way or another. And everyone is passionate about what they do and cares deeply about the experience they deliver their users.
