The Daily Wire has a piece out scaremongering about DIY HRT for adults. I'm not going to link to it, you can find it if you choose. They're trying to push for the FDA to go after people doing DIY HRT.
But much worse is this:
4th Circuit Rules That States Can Compel Trans Adults To "Appreciate Their Sex" Via Care Bans https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/4th-circuit-rules-that-states-can
The really scary bit:
> The court also took a significant step toward ruling that laws targeting transgender adult care would be constitutional. In a footnote, the court states, "While Skrmetti involved sex-change treatments for minors, disagreement among experts about the efficacy and necessity of transgender surgeries extends to treatment of gender dysphoria in adults."
@cwebber I'd just like to put in my two cents and say: fuck
@cwebber states rights .... to violate human rights*
The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention releases its third red flag alert warning about genocide of trans people in the US https://www.lemkininstitute.com/red-flag-alerts/red-flag-alert---anti-trans-genocide-in-the-usa---%233
> The Administration has moved from identifying transgender people as a threat to the family and to the nation’s military prowess to claiming that transgender people constitute a cosmic threat to the spiritual health of the nation and the greatest direct threat to U.S. national security in the world. Given these ideological developments, especially coupled with the increasingly hostile and draconian legislation against trans identities, the Lemkin Institute believes that the United States is squarely within the early to middle stages of a genocidal process against trans people, the goal of which is to completely erase transgender people not only from public life but also from existence in the U.S. and globally.
@cwebber HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY, the documentary about Chase Strangio, highlighted the very short path from New York Times articles to SCOTUS jurisprudence when it comes to us trans folks. Given that, I find it especially disturbing to read the news about the Fourth Circuit decision so shortly after the NYT gave Jesse Singal a platform to lie and say that there's widespread disagreement about trans care amongst practitioners.
@cwebber I’m German-Polish, and it’s harrowing sometimes to live among many people who don’t really see this stuff, or doubt people’s self-determination…
I know you’re quoting the Lemkin Institute statement. If things continue as they are with this administration directing U.S. politics and policy, there is a case to say “the United States is squarely…”. But the tide turned against those who militated against Gay Rights. The balance totters. But over time it leans to embracing everyone’s humanity and right to their authentic life. Those are American ideals.
Don’t lose hope.
Thank you for your clear words. Unfortunately, I see it the same way. And it's a global trend. The powerful in the US have declared war on trans and intersex people. Trump and his statement that from now on there will only be men and women. Musk hates his trans daughter. What's so bad about being trans or intersex? I used to think we were on the way to trans and intersex people being socially accepted.
These modern Nazis are doing the same thing their ancestors did. They are deliberately driving people to suicide. They are deliberately labeling us in their system. They are spreading hatred against us. Sorry, this is no longer my world!

@cwebber I don’t think the Supreme Court is going to have a problem with that
@m_22 I wish I could read your statement sarcastically, and that you meant that the Supreme Court *would* have a problem, but currently, I am pretty sure they are not aligned with trans folks
So much nightmare fuel
The fossil fuel billionaires apparently want to crush a small minority to distract the world from the disasters caused by burning oil.
@cwebber I’m not being sarcastic, unfortunately. Maybe I could be more optimistic about how I think they would rule about this if an appeal got to the Supreme Court, but I’m not optimistic.
@cwebber @kevinrns legislature encouraging citizens to appreciate their sex sounds like they want everyone to masturbate and be proud of it #LoudAndProud
@cwebber
And all this just to ensure that people don't look at that other 1% - the billionaires. So people don't strive to work together and improve the lives of their fellow people. It's so distressing to see, and I wish more were working together to put the blame back where it truly lies.
To be clear, several states are *actively* working on pushing for gay marriage to be overturned. Many have outlawed speaking about LGBTQ+ issues in front of children already. And things like drag are being banned in states with judges upholding those laws.
This is known as "tyranny of the minority."
As long as the minority controls states and the courts, they'll get away with whatever they want. Even if the general populace disagrees.
It also took nearly 40 years from the first major pushback about gay rights to actually getting gay marriage. Most of us aren't thrilled by the idea of waiting around 40+ years to get our rights back this time.
@cwebber 🤬😡 i'll be ready for them, am i fuck going quietly.
You’re right, Chloe. That sucks. I watched the life get slowly sucked out of my gay brother-in-law until he took his own life. That happened just as gay marriage was on the verge of being legal here in the U.S. He was preyed on as a child, and despite being incredibly gifted as a performer, was never able to come to terms with himself and the revulsion his parents had for him and who he was. What a waste.
And this is what they're doing to trans people now. They're committing a bloodless genocide. They're making our lives so stressful, scary, and sad that people are taking their own lives rather than live through it. And they're cheering it on.
is looking to #GetFediHired!
@Hippasus500 @cwebber the idea that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice” is (perhaps) encouraging – but personally I always append “…but only if people consistently fight and apply pressure to ensure it bends and stays bent – it doesn’t just magically happen without sustained effort”
in theory, rights are granted immediately, irrevocably, and in full by laws, but they are enforced (or not) by systems (comprised of people, some of whom consider their own belief systems to be higher than human laws) in ways that often mean that they’re very unevenly distributed
it’s cold comfort (some might say galling) to be told that (paraphrasing) “it’s OK, in the (very) long run (that you may not live to see) things will be better for people like you”
as for your suggestion that “But over time it leans to embracing everyone’s humanity and right to their authentic life. Those are American ideals.” I’ve gotta say that I think you have a very rose-tinted view of what “American ideals” are, both currently & historically

Somehow “favorite” doesn’t seem like the right way to say, “I’m with you.” But I am. Truly.
I wish you peace. I wish you strength. I wish there was more I could do. I do what I can.
The best thing you can do - and I'm saying this for anyone who reads it -
Speak up. Loudly. Constantly. Talk about trans people in a positive light. But also speak about what's happening to us and how it mirrors past genocides and things like segregation of black people.
Shut down transphobia whenever and wherever it happens.
When you see a proposed law in your state that would harm us, write to or call your Congress. Let them know you don't approve.
We need as many vocal allies as possible right now. Unwavering, constant allies. Both to push back against what's happening, and to show every queer person around you that we're not alone.
@cwebber this is literally #TransGenocide per definition of law and I expect this to not only be acknowledged as attempted #genocide but @bamf & @AuswaertigesAmt but also to be prosecuted since the relevant law has no statue of limitations whatsoever and @Bundesregierung has to "#PutUpOrShutUp!" here cuz it always claims "#HistoricalResponsibility" elsewhere…
As I sidenote I'm still baffled that Erin uses specifically a fascist platform to talk about this...
@cwebber Getting real fucking tired of telling people "we told you this would happen." How 'bout you?
