wish there was a browser plugin or something that would completely disable css animations and other things like animated images

why are browser plugins so restrictive?? why cant they just change how the browser functions?

@kemona_halftau true browser plugins are more powerful and don’t really exist any more. now there are extensions and are much more limited for security reasons (and at least in the case of google, “we don’t want you to have an effective ad blocker” reasons)

(edit: I was actually thinking mostly of XUL/XPCOM addons, not plugins)

@kemona_halftau actually XUL/XPCOM addons (which is what I'm thinking of) are a third thing. A plugin is specifically for handling certain content-types and isn't more powerful in that way (although it's certainly less sandboxed and therefore more dangerous)
