i went to an image to ascii converter webpage i remembered from my childhood. it looks 1:1 as i remember it. until I turn off ublock, when it loads 2 different cookie consent banners, and at least 3 ads

if you’re using the internet in 2025 without those (highlighted) extensions: how are you doing it? genuine question, this is the base that makes acceptable, i don’t think i could do computers without those

• libredirect handles redirects for me though it isn’t that good (ie it breaks on bluesky)
• violentmonkey for when libredirect doesn’t work on a site (like the aforementioned bluesky)
• i don’t mind pages being in light mode all the time, and for pages where it really bothers me, i’ll just make some css using stylus to make it a bit more tolerable
• i have a physical piece of paper with my passwords on them, and i make a point of always knowing where it is, although i should migrate to a password manager at some point

• singlefile and linkgopher for sites that i want to archive on my own

@domi I don't have consent-o-matic - I take satisfaction from clicking "reject" on the websites that make it easy to reject, and if one of them makes it hard then I want to know that, so that I can more easily get pissed off and never visit that website again.

NoPoW - idk these captchas are pretty quick on my computer. Though maybe I could use the addon on my phone...

I don't trust this software to do things right and I'd rather just close the tab on illegal GDPR popups or at least be aware that it's a site I shouldn't do anything more in than browse.

So far that stuff isn't too annoying although anubis is quite a pain, and cloudflare is always a pain but similarly as with consent-o-matic I'd rather avoid sites using it.

And it‘s also really effective at cutting out crap :D

@jana i used noscript in high school! i remember it fondly, i should probably return to it at some point. it really made some pages much snappier..

@domi I'm scared of adding more extensions as it's basically impossible to know when they update or keep tabs on updating them manually and they can be pawned very easily without knowing it.

I had to disable it ages ago because it kept using a lot of resources, making my fans spin up and making the system laggy
