@ariadne what? why? what is “washington”? why do they think they can dictate what people do with their bodies if that doesn’t directly with the work itself? so many questions

@byte I think people can get themselves chipped if they want to, it's just that companies can't require you to get chipped.

which I don't even think that's a thing?

@byte @ariadne They only changed the law so you can't be microchipped without consent.

Elon Musk talked about it being a "great idea" and some techbros "loved" it but obviously everyone else with two brain cells and not obsessed with their job thought that was horrifying.

@byte @ariadne this was discussed before at some point I think, this is specifically about "requiring your employees to be chipped to work for you"
And specifically not about what you are doing on your own

@ariadne @byte Elon Musk was talking about it and some companies were doing a pilot with it. Hence they passed that law.

@ariadne @byte Which honestly? Good, it sounds convenient for access control but what do you do with the chip when you don't work there anymore or your startup implodes in three years? And the kinds of chips they added weren't exactly reprogrammable, and not easy to remove.

@ariadne @byte it would be quite scary if it were.

@ariadne

It's bizarre that any employer would demand this in the first place.
