maybe i will install pirch and connect to dalnet
going to use my startup lottery winnings to buy and then run dalnet into the ground
i've had this computer since i was in college mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn
i literally bought it new at CompUSA
man... CompUSA. really brings me back.
anyway, that's the computer i wrote the early versions of atheme, charybdis and audacious on.
@ariadne I used to bike there in college to browse the sale bin.
Bought TrackMania: Sunset there, and Crashday.
Those were the days.
@dysfun i mean, i was a kid fucking around and having fun
i learned how to write C by hacking on ircd, which was just the right shape to really interest me, because i added features to ircd for my internet friends
it was a tight feedback loop, yes?
@dysfun so, in a way, that computer wound up giving me a career that did not involve being shot at because you were there to take methheads' kids away
@dysfun oh yes, but there is a lot of danger in it
@dysfun indeed? hence the career change. which happened *because* of ircd.
@ariadne as lottery goals go, thatβs a pretty good one ngl
@ariadne suddenly remembering getting up early on a Saturday to be sure to get there before they open just to make sure you get one of whatever it was that was on special sale that weekend
@ariadne I wonder if they ever fixed the buffer overflow in Pirch's DCC feature. I tried to report it but I was like 16 with undiagnosed ADHD and never chased it up, and I don't think they ever pushed out a new version?
