hey duckduckfedi, any openwrt/linux/hackable router recommendations? i've heard good things about the edgerouter and i've mostly used consumer tp-link stuff so far, but i'm waay behind the latest meta on networking equipment

@ptrc i have a cheap edgerouter x here i think, idk "it works", uses openwrt, has a quite up-to-date kernel and makes no issues. i think there is also the openwrt one which can be nice, idk tho

@ptrc check out BananaPi BPI-R4, despite the name it’s a complete (but modular) router solution with case and all the ports, had one as a GPON gateway last year and it’s still in my drawer waiting for better times

@ptrc I have a GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000). It comes with a fork of OpenWrt and it's easy to install upstream OpenWrt (as I did), and it has more than enough resources (1GB RAM, 8GB eMMC, MT7986AV) for a router as well as two 2.5GbE ports

@ptrc Xiaomi AX3600 is alright except a bit low on RAM depending on what, apart from normal router stuff, you expect to run on it

@rubiigen @ptrc Now there is a blast from the past. Did literally everyone have one of those?
