@kemona_halftau what do you mean you have a system that goes 12 am to 1 am? Why does the letter swap an hour before the number does?

@kemona_halftau We can't even get off Daylight Saving Time in California even though we voted to end it 8 years ago. And that was a change literally everyone wanted and still wants.

@phenolfight @kemona_halftau the opposite convention also exists (but is less commonly used, at least in english-speaking countries) and is also nonsensical in other ways. if 12pm is midnight (00:00), then the minute after that (00:01) would be 12:01pm, but that also doesn't make sense because "pm" (post meridiem) means "after midday" and 00:01 is not after midday.

both conventions are also arbitrary and nonsensical for 12:00am and 12:00pm exactly because midday is neither before nor after midday, and midnight is exactly 12 hours away in both directions from midday
