flicker-free boot high-end ultra level:
1. laptop drives an eDP display on the iGPU
2. user uses a fullscreen app that gets rendered on the dGPU
3. laptop and OS supports direct scanout through the dGPU on the eDP display (it's a thing, Linux just doesn't support it)
4. user hibernates the system
5. user turns the laptop back on
6. make the boot process flicker-free up to the point where the fullscreen application gets displayed through the dGPU on the eDP display again :)
@karolherbst Am I the only person that likes it when display flickers due to a modeset because it reminds me of when I was a kid and would boot up games and they where the only thing making the display do this mysterious thing (and the crt I had even had a relay that clicked when modesetting) and have learnt to associate it with fun.
