the bios has an undescriptive option called “Kiosk Mode (Note that this is a special setting)” which limits the battery to 50% which should prevent it from turning into a spicy pillow from being plugged in all of the time

the surface pro 3 is not particularly energy-efficient though

what was microsoft thinking making a tablet pc which draws almost 30 watts of power while idle

@kemona_halftau I thought that tablets are designed to be running mostly from the battery, unlike laptops where this doesn't have so big priority (but it's still useful). 😭

30W is more than my ThinkPad T14 and probably also more than the old-ish ThinkPad x220. 😭 I used to have large battery on the x220, since it didn't feel power-efficient enough.

@kemona_halftau I like that (runtime!) configuration of this is supported quite well on ThinkPads. Want to disable AC adapter input? No problem.

@kemona_halftau nothing is impossible (but it does appear to be rather difficult to do without breaking anything)

I have a phone with a dead battery that's like that, it's held together with glue and I haven't been able to open it with a hairdryer (I don't have a heat gun) and suction cups.
