I guess this rsync sloppery is going to make me write my own backup tool…

@ska Yeah :( It's been since 3.4.2

@ska And thankfully I don't use rsync on my Alpine machines, only Gentoo where 3.4.1 is still available (and would probably be easy enough to keep for some time, although not forever).

@lanodan @ska i'm more and more inclined to say there should be distro-level policies to refuse upstreams that go slop

@jn @ska I also really wish but then it would be a painfully minimalist system with no linux, no LLVM, ton of python stuff missing if not entirely missing, no web browser except stuff like Netsurf/Dillo, …

Makes me quite wish we would have a community-centric independent OS à la 9Front but for POSIX. (BSDs are still very dependant, same for Haiku)

@jn @lanodan @ska when linux itself contains slop this is hard to do

@lanodan @ska the way i see as possible (but still very flawed) is to refuse updates beyond a certain point

@jn @lanodan That is basically what I'm going to do, tbh. Update my software to the latest non-slop version, and then leave it there until human forks appear. And I think distros should do the same.
