i think english could use some more pronouns
we need more gender-neutral singular 3rd-person pronouns a la “they”
we need 4th-person pronouns for a hypothetical person (in place of “when [a person] does something”)

@noisytoot i just wish “one” was less ambiguous, e.g. talking about the same person, while “they” is already defined and is a separate person
actually now that i think about it i think we should have arbitrary variable reference pronouns
pronoun pointers
@kemona_halftau yes! lojban has this. instead of having third-person pronouns assigned based on arbitrary categories (gender, quantity) like english, it has 10 different assignable pronouns (“pro-sumti”), and you can also assign names or letters (in which case the thing being referred to is the most recent one beginning with that letter) in the same way. it also has 5 different “pro-bridi” that can be assigned to entire phrases.
I think this is a much better way of doing things than english’s assignment of pronouns based on arbitrary categorisation, which results in ambiguity if more than one thing is referred to with the same pronoun in the same sentence.
