@doskel Not super excited about all the GPUs without display outputs. The storage and RAM, on the other hand…

@maddy yeahhh not loving the idea of needing to have a high static pressure cpu cooler in my bedroom but on the other hand being able to load 15 copies of cs2 with high texture detail will be pretty nice

@maddy @doskel assuming they still have the graphics hardware and api support you could prolly get away with an igpu for display and a compute dgpu for rendering, like laptop switchable graphics

@kopper @doskel Oooh yeah, could be good for virtualization shenanigans!

@maddy @doskel That really kills me, and limits their second-hand usage.

@doskel Of course there's also a terabyte of ram so I can install games to it

@doskel I have a machine with eight SATA ports, my dream is 8x 4TB+ SSDs on that machine.

And maximum RAM on everything. Travel laptop that I use once a year? 64GB of RAM on that bad boy. Gaming desktop? Going to 128GB of RAM, I'll just install games directly to RAM there.

Hell, I'll sprinkle extra RAM sticks around the inside of the case, just because I can.

@doskel @notthatdelta literally nothing wrong with 15 year old home servers (looks at mine)

@wyatt @notthatdelta my server is a dell poweredge released in the same year as Me
i'm pretty sure it nullifies about 40% of our solar panels' output and has less performance than my 2018 ryzen 5

@wyatt @notthatdelta dual 2009 xeons in a 1u rack mount chassis is probably less efficient than a literal semi truck

@maddy @doskel I've been considering how difficult it would be to GPU accelerate compression, decompression, and search lately...

@doskel can't wait to have 4TB RAM in my POWER9 server (actually I need to get it booting first, hopefully I'd have done that by then)

@wyatt @doskel I've only owned one blade server, it was vastly less powerful than my gaming desktop BUT also ran twice as hot and pulled about 400W continuously (my gaming desktop exceeded that, but only during active gaming).

I was not impressed lol.

@doskel @notthatdelta meh could be
my home server is not an actual "server" so ironically it probably has a lower power consumption

@doskel Mine's ~12 years old at this point (Biostar TB250-BTC PRO (I never used it for mining; I just wanted the SATA ports)) and a 6700K. I am also feeling the pain.
