I've done a fair bit of tmux development over the years.

Here's the last version (tmux-3.6a) before any known AI was introduced:

I'm absolutely willing to maintain this and make it available, etc.

Depends on how much appetite there is for it.

@thomasadam I'm torn between "Yes! Give it to me!" and "But does it have a Gentoo overlay?"
Thanks for doing this.

@thomasadam

Dare you to email this to theo de raadt. =)

He can't not know that his OS is sloppified now.

I saw that thread, and yeah. I don't understand why they aren't picking up on it. 😒

@brynet, would you happen to know if there's any awareness of the [encroaching LLM code] in the #OpenBSD dev team?

@rl_dane @thesamesam @thomasadam Every developer has their own opinion of AI, personally mine leans massively toward "fuck AI", but I also find the credibility of people sounding the alarm to "fork everything" impulsive and reactionary. To be clear I do not believe this to be the case for opentmux, Thomas is a longtime tmux contributor and I have no doubt he made this decision after careful consideration.

Anyone who's spent five minutes on the OpenBSD mailing lists recently knows the sentiment towards drive by slop submissions from people who cannot reason about or respond to questions about their code when asked. Nothing like that has been committed to date that I'm aware of.. it's impossible to review.

There's a vast difference between that, and the trivial examples that keep getting floated around in some circles that don't quality as a "substantial" or uniquely copyrightable work. Again, my personal opinion.

That's all I'm going to say about this, @RL_Dane I don't appreciate being tagged in such conversations in the future, thank-you.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure how to parse that response, but I'll leave it (and Bryan) well enough alone, I guess.

Maybe someone smarter than me can decide whether OpenBSD is actually sloppified or not.

And now the open-slopware page has listed NetBSD as slop as well, because... they could theoretically make an exception to allow it, even though they haven't done so thus far and are not inclined to do so?

Everything is so confusing right now.

Goes to find some touchable grass

It is. OpenBSD's website states:
What's included in the base system?
OpenBSD is distributed with a number of third-party software products [...]
3rd party software is part of base system, some of them contain LLM-generated code (tmux, LLVM, Xenocara), some of them accept such code (like perl).

Separating "core" from base system does not make sense. Website defines what makes OpenBSD.

Open-slopware list is not fully reliable, there is included FreeDOS which excluded LLM contributions and does not include perl which accepts them. IceWM is listed as affected only because one person wrote another to use AI for explaining something, there was no LLM-based code included or review done.
