@jane im ok with whatever works but mpv breaks my whole PC for some reason (it ends up getting stuck in uninterruptible sleep and that snowballs to kwin/plasma session)

freetube has option to launch external video player but it doesn't work from flatpak and I can't install it from native pkg because it's in edge/testing repo :/

@jane could be some musl/alpine bug tbh, or KDE, or my hardware since I hear literally no one having such issue akko_shrug tech is fun

@pj @jane I use mpv all the time and never had that issue. Maybe play around with --vo?

@fun @jane I have no idea what that is, but I launched Konsole and launched mpv through that and it seems fine so far (but I tried doing that long time ago with my default terminal (wezterm) and it ended up killing my desktop or terminal session anyway, iirc). for the record, I always launched mpv through plasma command runner widget (alt+space) and that at some point made mpv start stream and go into not responsive after few secs and then freezes desktop completely (and it ends up in D-state so I can't kill it, gotta love linux)

@pj @jane mpv works fine with me (alpine+pipewire+xorg+fvwm3) so it may be a wayland/kde thing

other than mpv i think i can only suggest vlc?

@domi @pj @jane I run it inside sway/wayland, with a GPU that barely works.

When it crashes again, I would try to tweak `mpv --vo=help` and see if that fixes anything. Some vo backends may work better than others.
