@kemona_halftau i do wonder if they still ban tabs. im still kinda pettily angry about that, but zig doesn't seem that bad.

@fries that’s even worse than yaml banning tabs

@kemona_halftau i don't know how much it has changed since 2020, but the creator very much does not like tabs and makes sure the compiler doesn't accept them: https://github.com/ziglang/zig/issues/544#issuecomment-618072318

@fries @kemona_halftau this issue seems to be about CRLF line endings, not tabs? I don't know why the issue is called that. anyway, hello world indented with tabs compiles with no errors and warnings

@fries @kemona_halftau zig fmt does use 4 spaces, however, but much like go fmt (which forces tabs) you can just not use it

(also spaces > tabs simply because emacs handles tabs badly by default (without smart-tabs-mode, which is unmaintained and doesn’t load on modern versions of emacs without modification))

@noisytoot @kemona_halftau in this 2024 commit, the creator removed hard tabs from a example comment because they are "illegal according to the spec": https://github.com/ziglang/zig/commit/a7029496d153bd2ba4e91ef561a399cad6d77307

maybe the creator has had a change of heart in the last 2 years?
