Today I learned:

In our weekly catch-up meeting, we were talking about localization of TV shows and anime. My boss mentioned that in the UK, he grew up watching the ‘Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles’!

Apparently the name was adjusted in the UK due to concerns about violence in a children’s show!

Gosh, that just doesn’t roll off the tongue like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles does

@maddy Oh yeah, as a big Turtles fan, I heard about that a while ago. It also blew my mind!

@maddy that's what I always knew it as. I guess it doesn't seem weird if it's what you grew up with.

@maddy I'm in the UK and I've never heard of Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. Apparently they reverted the name change at some point

@maddy It was basically because of one weirdo on BBC’s BBFC board that hated ninja movies and such in general. The re-recorded theme song is hilarious because the singer sounds like Kermit.

@maddy Same thing in Germany.
Fun Fact: When I was watching Star Wars 8 in Cinema, I met the guy who sang the german theme song. xD
